USE THE ARCHIVE WITH CONFIDENCE

Past papers and the 2027 exam

The AP Statistics course and exam change for the 2026–27 school year. The May 2027 exam is fully digital in Bluebook. It has 42 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes and 4 free-response questions in 90 minutes. Each section contributes 50% of the exam score. Each new free-response question is worth 10 points.

The six-question papers in this archive follow the earlier structure: five shorter free-response questions and an investigative task. Their question numbers describe those historical papers. They do not predict which topic will appear in a particular question on the 2027 exam.

Removed content includes geometric distributions, combining random variables, chi-square goodness-of-fit tests, transformations used to analyze departures from linearity, and inference for regression slopes. Chi-square tests of independence and homogeneity are different from goodness-of-fit tests; do not discard every chi-square question. Likewise, interpreting a regression line is different from performing inference for its slope.

Investigative tasks may teach a new method within the question. Read the information provided before deciding a question is unsuitable. The topic labels here describe what the question asks, rather than assigning old unit numbers to the revised course. Official course and exam references are collected at the end of this page.

Build a useful practice session

  1. Pick one skill. Start with a topic you have studied, such as confidence intervals or experimental design. Use the skill descriptions to choose a question that addresses a specific gap.
  2. Work from the original paper. Open the question and read every subpart. Tables, diagrams, units and conditions are part of the problem. Continue to the next PDF page when the question carries on.
  3. Write a complete statistical argument. Define the relevant parameter, choose a method, check its conditions, show your calculation and interpret the result in context when the question requires these steps.
  4. Review with the matching guide. Record which part of your reasoning earned credit and which part needs revision. Sample responses help you see how a correct idea can be explained clearly.
  5. Reattempt without the solution. Return to a similar question several days later. A correct answer you can justify independently is more useful than a solution you recognize while reading.

Read the scoring documents carefully

A scoring guideline is a marking reference, not just a list of numerical answers. It can distinguish between a fully correct explanation, a partially correct response and a response that does not demonstrate the required understanding. Follow the guide for the exact year and form; similar-looking contexts can ask different questions.

Sample responses are students’ attempts and can contain errors. Their value comes from comparing the work with the scoring commentary. Chief reader reports describe common difficulties across the exam, while scoring statistics and score distributions summarize performance. Those summaries do not replace the question-specific criteria or predict the score your own work will receive.

For help understanding a method after attempting a question, explore AP tutoring or read our AP exam timetable guide when planning your revision. Keep a short error log: the skill, the mistake, the corrected reasoning and the date you will practise it again.

Questions about the question bank

Understand the archive, choose the right resources and keep your practice focused.

Tell us about your needs
How do I open an individual AP Statistics question?

Choose a question in the finder. The PDF opens in a popup at the question’s starting page and scrolls to its question number. Use the page controls to continue through longer questions. The page number shown is the physical PDF page, including the cover and reference pages.

Are these complete AP Statistics exams?

The question papers in this collection are released free-response sections, not complete exams with multiple-choice sections. There are 31 free-response papers and 186 indexed questions. Marking materials and sample responses are listed separately.

Can I use these past papers for the 2027 exam?

Yes, for topic practice, with care. The exam changes in May 2027 to four free-response questions instead of the six in these historical papers. Some older topics have also been removed. Use the current course description to select relevant practice; an old paper is not a complete 2027-format mock exam.

What does Form B mean?

Form B identifies a separately released version of an exam in the archive. It contains a different set of questions from that year’s regular paper. Match a Form B question with Form B scoring materials from the same year.

Where are the 2017 and 2020 question papers?

The supplied collection has scoring and sample-response documents for 2017 but no standalone 2017 question paper. Its folder labelled 2020 contains a 2012 question paper, which is indexed under its actual exam year. No 2020 question paper is listed here.

Where can I find mark schemes and example answers?

Open the paper library and expand a year. Scoring guidelines explain the marking criteria, while sample responses show students’ work and may include commentary. Try the question before opening either. The supplied 2026 folder contains a question paper only.
